No clocks in the brain! A Bergsonian foray into the neuroscience of time

Abstract: It is well-accepted that animals process time internally to estimate the duration of intervals lasting between one and several seconds. During this talk, I will present behavioral and neurophysiological evidence that don’t fit this framework in which time is considered as information. Animals feel (the pressure of) time but they appear unable to explicitly estimate it. Why? Surprisingly, the solution of this puzzle was given almost 150 years ago by Henri Bergson. I will attempt to present his visionary reflection on time and space and to show how it may help solving several key questions neuroscience is struggling with.
