Behavioral and neural mechanisms of voice processing in the common marmoset (PhD defense)

Abstract: This thesis explores the vocal communication of marmosets and the underlying cognitive mechanisms. Marmosets, which live in dense vegetation, have developed a sophisticated vocal communication system due to their limited visual communication abilities. Like other primates, marmosets use vocalizations to convey vital social and biological information within their species. This thesis investigates the evolutionary roots of vocal perception by studying vocal communication and auditory processing in marmosets from a behavioral and imaging perspective.
